Where art thou, Woowar?

Morning all,

Hope your weekend wasn’t too hectic. Apart from going to the usual bar to enjoy soup loads of the black stuff (please drink responsibly), I watched the Copa America final and witnessed Chile beating Argentina on penalties.

Poor ‘ol Dobbie left the pitch after 20 minutes of play with a muscle injury which goes down as yet another set back for the midfielder. Angel Di Maria has a huge season ahead of him which his Manchester United career depends on.

Hard luck to Marcos Rojo too. Unfortunately we cannot have any sympathy for Nicolas Otamendi just yet…

Moving on, it’s now July 6, and United have made just one signing.

Before the transfer window opened it was widely reported that United had three deals done and thus far I can only count one. I’m no mathematician but there’s no need for a calculator. When someone reports on a deal being done they should not be in a position to back track as it’s not something you can really get wrong.

A lot of journalists put their neck on the line and I respect that. They also get a hard time on social media by people that don’t fully understand what the job entails. This situation occurs at least daily on Twitter and I can only imagine how many media representatives bang their heads against the desk when it does.

The transfer window, or as I like to call it, silly season, can bring out the worst in football fans. See below a fitting comparison from our friends at Snickers.

However, I wouldn’t start panicking just yet and over think about the summer under David Moyes when we left only signing till deadline day. The squad are back training today and I’m sure Louis van Gaal will be in the office dealing with incoming and outgoing matters.

‘Hi Evans, what the fuck are you doing here?’ Erm.

Anyway, United need to hit the ground running in order to push Chelsea a step further in the Premier League. Just skipping over the top four line like we did last season will not be accepted this time around. Regardless of encouraging signs here and there, the football was often dire.

Currently we are nowhere near lifting the title but a challenge would give us a boost mentally to hopefully claim such an achievement sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, Gianluca Di Marzio says Fenerbahce are ‘optimistic’ that they can complete a deal for Robin van Persie with Wednesday possibly being the decisive day in any deal with a strong chance of it going ahead.

This is big call for the club to make when there’s no a real shortage of forwards available to van Gaal. Angelo Henriquez is off to Dinamo Zagreb and James Wilson is being eyed up by Steve Bruce for a loan move to Hull City.

Javier Hernandez, who was always expected to be leaving this summer, broke his collarbone in a Gold Cup warm-up match for Mexico and has been ruled out of action for at least four weeks. Real Madrid decided not to go ahead with taking the striker permanently but not once has he looked part of van Gaal’s plans, so that could change due to our lack of options.

United have not been closely linked with any strikers this summer but Christian Benteke is one I’d welcome with both arms. It doesn’t look like Liverpool are going to play his transfer clause either, so why not go for it while we can? The Daily Mail seem to believe his buy-out clause is worth somewhere in the region of £32.5 million.

The club will have no other choice but to go out and bring a front man in if they continue to lose strikers at this current rate. On another note, the fact they weren’t in the best goalscoring form last season, replacing them this summer is hardly the worst idea.

Right, that’s it from me until the next hour or so. Breakfast, coffee and some toilet stuff.
