Guillermo Varela has returned to Manchester United after a successful season long loan at Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old right back spent last season playing for the Spanish giants’ second team, Real Madrid Castilla, making 33 appearances and receiving praise from Zinedine Zidane.
“I am delighted with Guillermo Varela, he is very hard-working, very serious and he is going to have a big future for sure,” Zidane said.
United have been linked all summer with right backs from Dani Alves to Nathaniel Clyne and now Seamus Coleman. After a season of watching Antonio Valencia play the role, I’d be surprised if any of us wanted to see that again in August.
Maybe Varela could come in and get some opportunities but it’s completely down to Louis van Gaal whether he feels the youngster is ready or not.
If he’s going with on the USA tour, I for one certainly hope he gets his shot to impress in the position.
Carlisle Johnson: Unless something happens in the meantime like Varela leaves permanently or on another loan spell, I cannot see why he wouldn’t be brought on tour.
