Manchester United launched a new campaign on Pinterest to showcase its international fan base and how supporters across over the world chose United as their club.
Every Manchester United fan has had their own personal journey following the team, from how they started doing it to how they support the team now.
For some, the beginning was in the blood – they were born into a family of Reds, so they didn’t have a choice (not that you’ll hear them complain!). For others, it may have been a chance encounter with the team or an individual player that sparked the initial interest.
What’s certain is that once you’re hooked, United is for life.
We want to hear your tales of how you became a fan and by far the best way to share that story is on Pinterest, the social media platform that enables people to build personal online scrapbooks – Pinterest boards – on particular themes and topics.
I was selected to have #MyUnitedStory featured as an example board by the club’s social media department. #MyUnitedStory tells the tale of how I became the sports oddball at school and in my family by becoming obsessed with Manchester United.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with me or my work (@TheBusbyBoys) I am an American supporter who began following the club after watching United play Celtic in Seattle (my hometown) in 2003. From that point on, I was completely set on following England’s most successful club, faking sickness to stay home (don’t tell my mom) to watch matches and traveling around the country to see the club play.
#MyUnitedStory chronicles my favorite goals, memories, players, and matches during my 12 years of following the boys in red. I had previously not seen much value in Pinterest, but after completing this project I understand the appeal of the site and definitely recommend that you create your own #MyUnitedStory.
You can follow Charles on Twitter @TheBusbyBoys and look forward to more articles on StrettyNews in the coming months as United tour the United States. Here is a link to his #MyUnitedStory.
