Van Gaal: United will fight to keep De Gea

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that David de Gea could be lured by Real Madrid; but has also said United will fight to keep the Spaniard in between the sticks at Old Trafford.

De Gea’s fantastic form has caught the attention of Carlo Ancelotti, who has targeted the 24-year-old as a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas; ironically, the two are competing for a starting place in the Spanish national team.

Next summer is when De Gea’s current contract expires, and United have claimed that they have made his contract renewal a top priority.

Van Gaal, asked whether De Gea will sign a new contract or not, said: “I think that is also a question between the player and the board of Manchester United.”

“Everything is possible in the world of football. We want to keep him.”
