Carrick & Fellaini set to return

David Moyes confirmed in this week’s press conference that Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick are set to return from injury. Fellaini (wrist) has been out for 2 months while Carrick (ankle) missed the Cardiff game.

“Fellani’s on the fringes. We need to get him match practice but he’s very close. Carrick is improving with his ankle and has got a good chance of being in the squad”

When asked whether Fellaini would be in the squad on Saturday Moyes responded with ”probably”. Giving our current midfield woes and the fact we have not signed a central midfielder last month, getting both Carrick and Fellaini back will be a massive boost.

Some Reds have been too quick to judge Fellaini. In a season where so many players have been playing poorly, even Carrick, who was one of if not our best player last season. You cannot label Fellaini a ‘flop’ this early in his Manchester United career. Give him time and he will settle. I think a lot of the dislike towards him is out of frustration of the price we paid and the fact we failed to sign anyone else last summer. I believe he will come good, but time will tell.

While Carrick and Fellaini both look set to return it’s quite the opposite for Nani. Nani has missed most of the season through injury already and there was suggestion he was to be loaned out  but his injury may well have blocked that move. Moyes confirmed that Nani (hamstring) will be out for another month.

Nani has had a bad hamstring injury. He’s getting closer now but I think it will be another month until he will be about ready to play

So mixed news on the injury front but certainly a boost to get 2 midfielders back into action.
