Joey ‘Big Mouth’ Barton

If you have got a big mouth and you are controversial, you’re going to get attention.

Joey Barton, however, has got such a big mouth that it shouldn’t faze anyone anymore. The Queens Park Rangers midfielder is a prominent user on Twitter with over two million followers. Judging on his tweets alone, the BBC bizarrely described Barton “as a philosophical sportsman to rival Eric Cantona in his heyday” following comments he made about the likes of Friedrich Nietzsche, George Orwell, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Morrissey.

On Friday, the day Ryan Giggs turned 40, Barton went off in search of attention yet again. When everyone else was paying their respects to one of the greatest servants to the Premier League, this Scouse buffoon couldn’t help but add a soar twist in his.

Writing on Twitter, Barton said: “Giggs has done unbelievable to get to 40. Still a vital player for United. Some career he’s had. The British Paulo Maldini.

“Still can’t have him for getting up his brother’s bird though. Great player but can’t be doing that. No matter how much of a top player he is.”

Dignity and class were never traits Barton had a large. Here are some of the reasons I don’t think he has a reason to be so lippy.

December 2004: Barton stubbed out a lit cigar in youth player Jamie Tandy’s eye at a Manchester City Christmas party.

June 2005: Barton was sent home from a pre-season tournament in Thailand after assaulting a 15-year old Everton fan.

May 2007: City team-mate Ousmane Dabo pressed charges against Barton in May 2007 following a savage, unprovoked and cowardly assault at the club’s Carrington training ground. He later pleaded guilty.

December 2007: Went Barton left City for Newcastle, the troubled followed. He was arrested on suspicion of assault in the Church Street area of Liverpool city after CCTV showed Barton punching a man twenty times, causing him to lose consciousness, and attacking a 16-year-old, breaking some of his teeth. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to six months in jail.

November 2008: Barton allegedly passed a racial remark towards Aston Villa’s Agbonlahor. Although, the English striker dropped the complaint because of the negative press Barton would receive as a result.

What to expect from a pig? Nothing but a grunt.
