Thiago open to United swoop

United’s interest in Barcelona’s exciting young prospect Thiago Alcantara has been well documented. It appears that his future is away from his boyhood club, if Catalan based sports journal Sport is to be believed today.

Thiago, who is currently on International duty and will captain the Spanish Under 21s against Italy in the final tonight, has reportedly told his employers that he wants a fresh challenge and regular football.

The classy, creative midfielder has found first-team opportunities limited, behind compatriots Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets and Fabregas in the pecking order, not to mention Alex Song and Javier Mascherano.

Thiago has become a seriously attractive transfer target due to a massive deflation in his transfer value. Despite his initial release clause being set at a lofty 90 million euros, because he failed to appear in 60% of Barcelona’s 2012-13 fixtures this value is now at a mouth-watering 18 million euros.

In today’s hyper-inflated transfer market where astronomical prices are being touted on a daily basis, Thiago represents one of the best bargains in recent times.

Barca’s midfield magician Xavi has gone on record to say that Thiago will far surpass his ability, which is quite astonishing to read. Xavi is seen by many as the archetypal midfielder and a lesson in ball retention, you can see this in Thiago’s play too. I mean, Xavi is not a bad mentor!

Thiago has had one of the best educations one could possibly have, having graduated from the illustrious La Masia Academy. His upbringing has helped him develop into a serious prospect- he is a classy midfielder, comfortable with either foot, everything seems so easy to him, everything is done in his own time- this is the sign of a quality performer- when they have seemingly more time than anyone else, we saw that first-hand with our ginger sat-nav Paul Scholes.

Thiago has made it abundantly clear that he would not discuss his future until the conclusion of the Under 21 championship. However, he revealed that David de Gea has been persuading him to join ranks at Old Trafford. Thiago would join a number of Spanish speaking players at United- Chicharito, Antonio Valencia, De Gea, Rafael and even Patrice Evra.

That said, as many may have already seen, Thiago is competent in speaking English, having given post-match interviews to Sky Sports. The fact that there would be no language barrier makes his signature all the more appealing, meaning there would not be as much of a prolonged transition period.

Our interest in Thiago has not only just come about in recent weeks, Sir Alex Ferguson was a well-known admirer of the youngster and our advances for Thiago were knocked back last summer.

Centre-midfield is undoutedly the main priority this summer- Scholesy has retired, Anderson in the last chance saloon and doubts over Darren Fletcher’s return to the first-team.

With incoming manager David Moyes looknig to bolster the engine room with at least one purchase (PSV’s Kevin Strootman is believed to be on the verge of joining), sources in England and Spain have confirmed that we are trying very hard to secure Thiago.

With the Championships due to finish tonight, in the next coming days we will have a better idea of our transfer progress, mainly the deals for Strootman and Thiago, who were both focusing on the football.

If or when we secure these deals, it would represent a very pleasing foray into the transfer market and would appease the fans who have been crying out for midfield additions for a day and beyond.

We cannot afford to miss out on Thiago at a mere £15M. It is daylight robbery, an absolute steal. He cannot fall into previous missed opportunities such as Sneidjer, David Silva and Eden Hazard.

Moyesy sign him up.

  1. And just were is United interest documented? In the gossip rags? Have you heard form anyone at United about this… no… really… well then how is their interest “documented”.

The English language is fairly precise, there are over a million words to express thoughts and ideas with some accuracy, take some time to learn it.

  2. Pse!we realy need a classy midfielder. Moyes pse break the bank for this player(Thiago). That is where our weakness is.

  3. Against most premier league competition a pairing of Carrick and Thiago with Kagawa in front of them would do well. Carrick doesn’t have the tackling and speed of a defensive mid but he uses his smarts and positioning to block up spaces and lanes. Combine that with Kagawa and Thiago’s abilities to disrupt players further up the pitch and pressurize opposing midfielders the defenders and Carrick will be eating up all the passes made by opponents that were under pressure. Perhaps for stronger CL opposition it would be important to include Strootman or Jones as a tackler rather than Carrick or Thiago.
