Berbatov set to leave United this summer?

Throughout the years Manchester United have played part in prolonged transfer negations, especially the one which ended up with the signing of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee said to be worth £30.75million. But the Bulgarian now finds himself in another tiring experience with questions being asked about a contract extension.

Last season Berbatov received the Golden Boot award after scoring 21 goals in 42 games, with 20 of those scores coming in 32 Premier League appearances. However, there’s still people out there that question his approach to the game but throughout the 2010-11 campaign, Berbatov demonstrated how to play the ‘United way’ which is one of the reasons I can’t seem to get my head around the fact he has been put aside this season.

Is Fergie holding a grudge after the two clear-cut chances Berbatov wasted against City in the FA Cup semi-final last season? If so, I will be disappointed. When the 30-year-old was dropped for the 2010 Champions League final, Berbatov explained afterwards how he watched it in the dressing room with tears rolling down his face. He stayed at the club and fought for a place in the side which sadly, seems ignored.

On Wednesday, Ferguson said: “He wants to get first team football and we need to consider that at the end of the season,” which is fair enough seeing Welbeck has been in terrific form. And with respect for Berbatov, I’d honestly prefer to see him elsewhere if it meant he could go back to enjoying his football. It’s not easy seeing an honest player with such class being put aside like he has been.

Berbatov, by the looks of things, has fallen down the pecking order becoming our 4th choice striker. While I can understand why Rooney and Welbeck start week-in week-out, the Hernandez and Berbatov combination cannot be ignored. For example, the Bulgarian has 7 goals in 10 league appearances this season yet he’s barely been given a look in.

So whatever happens Berbatov this summer, I hope we get to see him play before the season ends. A fitting goodbye for all the moments we shared together, especially that hat-trick against Liverpool.

  1. It would be nice to see him this season and he is still a class act. Probably lacking in confidence undstandably but who knows… given the chance could he have made a difference in the European ties?

  3. Brilliant, just brilliant, agree with every single word.

It really makes me sad to think of Berbatov playing for another club (just imagine that he would be a perfect piece at Merseyside), but it makes me sad either to see him as a 4th choice striker, who can’t even be on bench in a f.. Europa League match.

Wish him all the best, from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for the 19th.

  5. Agree with everything the article and Allan’s reply says. They say if you fall out with Fergie that is it, but here with Berba he is cutting off his nose to spoil his face. He is a fantastic footballer although now when he does actually appear on the field he seems worried that he does not score every try. He can do no right, Rooney no wrong. Not that I am criticising Rooney, not at all. Not only did Berba score a hat-trick against the scousers, he got 5 in one match something very few have done. I will miss Berba so much, he is such a skilful player.
Good luck wherever you end up Berba I for one will follow your progress

  9. Where else in the world would you win a golden boot, score three hat tricks in a season and be the first player in 64years to score 3 against your greatest rivals not to mention being the first foreign player to score 5 in a game in the EPL end up on the bench the following season and being dropped from the Champions League Final????????? Only at United. And to imagine Rooney held teh club at ransom demanding more money and marquee signings and Berba stepped up and played never complaining or asking for a raise. Fergie has mistreated Berba and despite loyalty to United I hope he leaves so that we can see class on the field week in week out.

  11. come on berbo, leave and prove to fergie that letting you go is a mistake. i hope you still in the premier league

  13. And you know what makes it worse? How Rooney asked to leave, questioned the club’s ambitions and for almost an entire season played the shittiest football I have ever seen from him. What did Ferguson do? Express his disappointment at his star boy wanting to leave the club. Berbatov stepped up and did remarkably well almost single-handedly winning us our coveted 19th title whilst scoring a hat-trick against our bitter rivals who we overtook. That part alone should make the guy a freaking legend to Utd fans. But no. Some hate him, Fergie can’t be arsed with him and the rest of us have to defend him everyday…
Rooney can do no wrong and Berbatov can do no right. The rest of the players are in between. I dare anybody to come up with all the excuses why Berbatov is not good enough for United and I’ll counter it perfectly.

      1. Then maybe it’s time to change our “style” of football because it ain’t working. And what exactly is our style anyway? Give the ball away, let teams keep attacking us and then hit them on the counter? Are we Napoli? That’s what mid-table teams do. We need to control games and keep possession and Berba can do that perfectly. Utd are way behind technically. We play teams like Bilbao and they beat us because of how technical they play. Berba is the most technical player Utd has. We watch Barca and marvel and bum them because of how they play yet we ignore one of the few players we have that can fit into that team perfectly. I don’t see what being 30 has to do with anything really. He’s hit his peak just last year. Has a long way to go. And as for not working hard I think you mean he does not run around like a headless chicken chasing lost causes. Hernandez runs around like a headless chicken, hardly gets involved in general team play and just waits for the ball to get to him most times. Why don’t you abuse him? Work as hard as Welbeck who has a poor touch and a poor finish? I’ll take Berba over that any day really…

        1. Becky i couldn”t agree with you more at times i feel some of the United faithul are watching the team play through Fergie’s eyes

    1. Mate, I can understand your opinion as a Berba fan boy. But for you to understand, we can’t change our style of play just for one player.

And you can’t blame Fergie for that. Fergie certainly knows more about Berba and the team. Fergie does the best for the team. And if SAF sees Chicharito and Welbeck both are better than Berbatov, we should understand that.
I stand with “Fergie knows best.”

And, for the Rooney point. Rooney is our best player and just better than Berbatov. Rooney didn’t do well in a season, it’s normal for any player. Fergie knows that, too.

Yes, I love Berbatov, as I love every United players. He has done well for us. Helped us to win our 19th league title. We should give him a chance to play a first-team games. But I don’t think Manchester United is the right place for him to make it.
so farewell Berba. Your incredible talent doesn’t deserve to be wasted in our bench (or dressing room). All the best for you, Berbasex

      1. If SAF knows best as you say please tell me why we’ve been knocked out of four cup competitions this season and by the looks things might miss the fifth ?????????.

  15. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a player be top scorer one season and then completely left out of it the next like Berbatov has.

I love him to pieces, and want nothing more than for him to stay – but not unless he get’s to play football.

If United aren’t gonna use him, he should be allowed to leave so he can do his magic elsewhere.

We should all thank him for our number 19.
