Short reaction to the Champions League final defeat

Before I share my thoughts, I would like to congratulate Barcelona for winning this year’s Champions League. They deserved it and nobody can take that away from them.

Unfortunately, there was no repeat of the 1968 European Cup for Manchester United in their second attempt to lift the trophy for a fourth time. Ferguson’s men were hit with deja vu being outplayed by the Catalan giants, again we got little of the ball to really have a go at them.

Barcelona approached the game as expected, keeping the ball trying to frustrate their opponents. The game also proved that chant “we’ll do what we want” has to be kicked out next season, because tonight Barcelona did, like in 2009, what they pleased. There was no stopping them – like a bull ready to charge.

I would prefer not to get stuck in to tactic talk, simply because if Ferguson couldn’t get it right, how the fuck could I? But you read/hear about it every day you’re out and about, how Barcelona play that distinctive style of play. Their possession starts from the goalkeeper, Victor Valdés, so the Catalan fans are correct when they chant “Even our keeper plays the Barça way!” There’s no point in being bitter about the result, it’s not often we get a hammering like that.

For reaching the final of the Champions League, Manchester United will receive £63million. Ferguson has no other choice but to spend it and strengthen his squad – the Scott has already confirmed that the club have three players in mind but after tonight, he might want more.

Now, I just want to curl up in my bed and wake up Monday morning to the lads showing off our 19th league trophy on an open-top bus which will take the Reds from the Manchester Cathedral to Stretford Mall, including a trip to Old Trafford.

Goodnight all.
