What can I say… It could have been a Premier League great, but Martin Atkinson changed that by ruining the match making some deluded decisions. However, United’s overall performance was better than some of our recent when a few individuals played better than they have all season, including Michael Carrick.

But the majority of newspapers Wednesday morning, after the game, were all about Ferguson’s post-match interview where he made some comments about Martin Atkinson.

“It was a major game for both clubs and you want a fair referee. You want a strong referee and we didn’t get that,” Ferguson said.

“I don’t know why he [Atkinson] got the game. I must say that when I saw who was refereeing it, I feared the worst.”

But, you’ve got to see where Ferguson is coming from – Atkinson, who was also referee when both teams met last season at Old Trafford. The result went Chelsea’s way and it was Didier Drogba who scored the winner from an offside position.

In result to Ferguson’s comments the FA have charged the Manchester United boss, with improper conduct. Now Sir Alex has until 4pm on Tuesday 8 March to respond to the charge. Ferguson, will be able to watch Sunday’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield from the touchline – thank god as it’s a game we can’t walk away from without three points.
