Match Report: Olympique de Marseille 0-0 Manchester United

There was nothing glorious about tonight’s Champions League “round of sixteen” fixture between Manchester United and Olympique Marseille, which ended as a scoreless draw.

From Manchester United’s starting XI, we all got a feeling there wasn’t going to be much to admire with the lack of creative players in the midfield area. Michael Carrick, yet again put in another poor performance, failing a number of times to make easy passes such as ones from a distance of 5 yards…

Manchester United got more sloppy as the first half went on, giving the impression that they were happy to take and decide the tie back at the Theatre of Dreams, however, the majority of fans felt disappointed that their team didn’t come away with an away goal which would have put them into a better position going into the second leg.

Manchester United improved during the second half, but the game ended as it began – boring and stale, some might say that sums up United’s season, but look at how many games we went unbeaten in the league and we’re still remaining on top. Doing something right, eh.

If United weren’t as well marshaled at the back, we could have witnessed a different result going Marseille’s way – credit going to Chris Smalling, who again put in a marvelous performance with England’s captain, Rio Ferdiand, being absent due to an injury.
