Match Report: Manchester United 2-1 Stoke City

Manchester United now sit three points ahead of rivals Manchester City after beating Stoke City 2-1 at Old Trafford thanks to a superb strike from Nani.As expected, Wayne Rooney didn’t feature after picking up an ankle injury last weekend against West Brom. Rio Ferdinand and Van Der Sar were also given the night off ahead of the big game against Liverpool this Sunday in the FA Cup.

The game started lively, with neither side afraid of putting in the odd tackle. Manchester United’s first chance came from Berbatov, who failed to keep his attempt on target, being caught off balance.

Manchester United opened the scoring on the 27th minute, a Nani cross was sensationally back-heeled into the back of the net by Javier Hernandez. The goal was coming with United keeping the ball well, all credit to Darren Fletcher who I thought held the midfield magnificently well.

Stoke were incredibly quite up to half time, however “The Potters” started the second half superbly with Dean Whitehead scoring an equalizer on the 50th minute.

The Red Devils were immediately put on the back-foot, thankfully it didn’t last long with Hernandez linking up very well with Nani, who scored the winner from an excellent strike on the 62nd minute.

This was another hard fought victory from Manchester United, one that kept me at the edge of my seat, but hopefully we’ll hit top form soon and march on to our 19th league title!
