Defour’s Agent Speaks About A Possible Move In January

It’s beginning to look likely that Steven Defour will be leaving Belgian club Standard Liege in the January transfer window with Manchester United, Everton and Liverpool all being linked as potential suitors.

Steven Defour broke his leg in September 2009 which kept him on the sidelines for most of the last campaign. It’s thought he received a “Get well soon” card from Sir Alex Ferguson after breaking his leg. The last time Fergie did this was the season before Manchester United signed Ruud Van Nistelrooy. This has Manchester United being favorites for getting Defour’s signature.

Paul stefani, Defour’s agent told Sport.co.uk: “It is very early in Defour’s return from injury, and it is early to talk about a transfer, but January is a possibility for him.

“In January if we can do something for him we will do it. He has recovered well and is playing really well at the moment, so maybe something could happen.

“He is playing very well and is the leader of the side, everyone is very impressed with him at the moment. So you never know in football, a move could be possible.

After being asked could Defour succeed Paul Scholes at Old Trafford, Stefani said:

“Yes I think he can play this position, it is natural for him. He was excellent at the weekend and his recovery from injury has been impressive. But it is not up to me to decide if he can play in that position.”
