Match Report: Manchester United 3-1 Chelsea Community Shield

Yesterday Sir Alex Ferguson made an apology after playing Michael Carrick even though Ferguson said he would be out for up to a fortnight with an ankle injury.  Ferguson also made it clear that he is happy for Wayne Rooney to play for England this week, can’t understand that because if he was to get injured it could ruin the whole season for our star man. But yet I’m sure Rooney can’t wait to show the other England fans how they were wrong in blaming him over the early exit in South Africa.

Manchester played quite good football for the whole match with Paul Scholes being the best player on the pitch by a very long mile! It was Wayne Rooney who played in Valencia on the 41st minute to open the scoring. The two teams went in at half time with United winning 1-0, I was happy with the way we played at this stage.

Ferguson made a few switches at half time but the main one was taking of Michael Owen for the new boy Hernandez. Hernandez scored on his debut on the 76th minute kicking the ball of his face for it to roll into the net. Chelsea started to get into the game near the end with some good attacking football which gave them a goal scored in the 83rd minute by Kalou.

Kalou’s was soon dispersed when Dimitar Berbatov worked a little bit of magic by lobbing  Hilario in the final minute. Berbatov and Hernandez paired rather well and its something I expect to see a good bit of in the coming season with maybe Rooney playing just behind them.

It was great beating the “Rent Boys” though, had to say it. I seen some of the highlights from the rest of Chelsea’s pre-season and to be honest they didn’t play well in any of their games. Ok that’s not something to go by really but United were strong enough in theirs.
