MATCH REPORT: Philadelphia Union Vs Manchester United

Manchester United took on Philadelphia Union last night in the second match of their 2010 pre-season tour. Philadelphia beat Celtic 1-0 in Celtic’s first pre-season match.

Philadelphia Union are new to the MLS and had to play their first few games away because their new stadium Lincoln Financial Field  wasn’t ready to play at home. Manchester United got to play of the new soil last night and it didn’t look to bad.

French winger Gabriel Obertan got the only goal of the match which was also his first senior goal in a Manchester United shirt. Yet again he was able to show his pace and at times end product was a problem. Obertan’s celebration wasn’t the best that I have seen with a little dance at the corner flag.

We started the match with Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda up top. Danny Welbeck started great showing us the skill and speed that he has but Macheda at times was very selfish by not releasing the ball when he was supposed to. In the second half Danny Welbeck missed some chances but deserved a goal  from his first half efforts.

I was very happy with the young Tom Cleverley who had a very good game. Himself and Paul Scholes showed some great true balls at times but whats new for our ginger genius? Cleverley is one of them players that if he went in for a 50/50 tackle you would have your house on him. Bit of a warrior in him to be fare. He was looking to get 2 goals in 2 games last night which sadly didn’t happen.

The fans all had a giggle when they saw Scholes take down Eduardo Coudet and getting a yellow card. Even Scholes couldn’t help laughing when he got the reception.

Dimitar Berbatov was brought on in the second half and was very unlucky when his great shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and failed to pass the line. Would of been great excitement if he succeeded in scoring.

  1. Obertan rockssssssssssssssssssssss….. nice celebration 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

    must have scored more …

but win is a win 🙂

  2. Yeah Vazza it was slow enough game last night. There was bits of fast attacking style play at times but end product was the problem and reason for only 1 goal.

We will be sorted for the upcoming season! 🙂

  3. Berbatov will get a lot more games this season, and will be very good, can’t wait for season to begin 😀
