Before Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United kicked off against Bob Bradley’s Swansea on Sunday, the North West outfit had failed to win a Premier League game in four attempts drawing against the likes of Stoke City, Liverpool and Burnley at the same time losing embarrassingly 4-0 away at Chelsea. This bad performance has reduced their Online Soccer Betting odds to a great extent. To make matters worse, Mourinho was serving a touch line ban for the game away at Swansea after his sending off against Burnley a week before Sunday. Unlike previous league games, the United manager restored skipper Wayne Rooney to the starting line-up to play on the left side of attack — a position previously occupied by the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for sometime now (4-2-3-1).

Once the shining light of Old Trafford, Wayne Rooney on current form has fallen from grace to grace as he is now a laughing stock to fans and analysts who have spotted his loss of form for the past three years. To buttress the condition the forward has found himself, it is important to note that he has failed to make the starting line-up in United’s last five league games at the same time making the bench for the Three Lions even as skipper recently.

Against Swansea, Rooney showed that class is permanent even though form might be temporal as his intelligence and movement with and without the ball made him the star of the team. Though his pace was slow and labored at times, the former Everton forward attempted six take ons succeeding four times which was on par with Paul Pogba. It did not end there as the forward further assisted two of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goals finding space to protect the ball from Wayne Routledge to tee up Ibrahimovic for the first and then repeating the same for the Swede’s second coupled with his involvement in Paul Pogba’s first after cutting back for Ibrahomivic to cut back for the Frenchman. This was truly vintage Rooney as he not only led by example but also showed glimpses of the form that has seen his score 194 Premier League goals in his career which is second to Alan Shearer while not understating his 179 goals  for United which makes him the record highest goalscorer for a single club in the league.

Rooney has talked less of recent even though he has been written off as rumours continue to circulate that he is on his way to China or America in January judging from his loss of form yet unlike other players who try to attack the fans or coaches or shift blame the £24 million signing from Everton in 2004 has responded in exceptional fashion scoring a wonder goal  in the 2-1 loss away to Fenerbahce despite starting the game from the bench and again doing better against relegation placed Swansea.

Though it is still too early to predict what will happen next, one thing we know for now is that Wayne Rooney is surely out to prove doubters wrong.
