Player Ratings – United 0-1 Everton

David de Gea – Was kept relatively busy by Mirallas, Lukaku and Deulofeu. Beaten by Oviedo under his body. 6

Rafael – His return was a timely boost, although looking good going forward, fatigue and rustiness kicked in, and was replaced on the hour. 6

Chris Smalling – Back at centre-back and did a decent job moping up after Lukaku gave Vidic problems. 6

Nemanja Vidic – Looked slow on the turn and threatened by the pace and power of Lukaku, not one of the captain’s better nights. 5

Patrice Evra – A typical marauding Evra performance, sometimes caught out of position but for the whole defending quite well. 6

Antonio Valencia – Looked a shadow of the player that was on song against Leverkusen, crossing not up to standard again. 5

Marouane Fellaini – Arguably his best game in a United shirt, but still got dispossessed and could have been sent off for a studs up tackle on James McCarthy. Decent and tidy in possession. 6 MOTM

Ryan Giggs – Couldn’t provide the creativity we needed, was often over-run in midfield by Barry and McCarthy. 5

Shinji Kagawa – Trusted again in the hole, but was shifted out wide after a while and did not do enough to influence the game. 5

Danny Welbeck – Poor tonight. Should have scored with a header that hit the woodwork. Hasn’t kicked on since the opening day brace at Swansea. 5

Wayne Rooney – Was unlucky with a deflection that hit the post, fluffed a great chance with a volley that he somehow blazed over. Frustration boiled over and will be a massive loss when suspended against Newcastle. 6

SUBS

Nani – Over elaborate in possession and dallied on the ball. Didn’t really offer much in the final third. 5

Adnan Januzaj – Looked threatening on the right, was direct and ran at his full-back but they doubled up on him and nullified him. 6

Chicharito-  Barely any time to use his predatory instincts, did not get any service. 5
