Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-0 Bournemouth

David de Gea – 8

Didn’t have much to do but given how shaky the defence was from the start he was always the insurance call. Pulled off a good save to prevent Josh King from scoring just before the break.

Matteo Darmian – 5

Surely on his way this summer? Ran out of position a number of times and left the right flank open for Bouremouth’s players to attack.

Chris Smalling – 7

Scorer of the opening goal but given Smalling has played more than any of the other defenders to start Mourinho would have expected him to lead the back four better.

Phil Jones – 6

Lacking match fitness but good to see him get minutes under his belt. Put in a very important tackle 63 minutes into the game to prevent Bournemouth from equalising.

Luke Shaw – 6

Did OK for a player being totally written off. Still, a lot of work to do but Shaw has probably left it too late.

Ander Herrera – 8 MOTM

Best midfielder on the pitch wearing a United shirt tonight. Made important interceptions and played a world class pass to set Lingard up to assist for the opener.

Marouane Fellaini – 5

Did nothing special.

Paul Pogba – 6

Took too many touches and was regularly at fault for overcomplicating things. That said, the Frenchman provided a wonderful assist to aid Lukaku in front of goal.

Jesse Lingard – 5

Created the first and only goal but wasn’t one of his better nights. Lost the ball on too many occasions.

Marcus Rashford – 7

Worked hard and made a super challenge to retain possession from Bournemouth defender Ake in the first half. Still, for a player that wishes to lead the line, Rashford needs to add goals to his name when played as a centre forward. Especially if he plans to really compete with Romelu Lukaku.

Anthony Martial – 8

Dangerous from the left and warrants a start against Spurs on Saturday in the FA Cup semi-final. And yes, ahead of Alexis Sanchez.

[SUB] Romelu Lukaku – 7

Scores 10 minutes after coming on from the bench. A certain to start on Saturday.

[SUB] Daley Blind – N/A
