Hull 0-0 Manchester United: Fellaini’s moment of madness + impressive Valdes

In what I would describe as the most boring game of the 2014/15 campaign, Hull City dropping to the Championship and Marouane Fellaini’s sending off are the only real talking points.

Steve Bruce’s Hull City went into the final day of the season >knowing anything but a win while hoping Newcastle would drop points would see them relegated from the Premier League.

Ultimately, neither of those two things happened and as a result Hull City will join QPR and Burnley in the Championship next season.

Despite Bruce being a former United player and some hoping to see Newcastle go down instead, I was not of the opinion that Louis van Gaal’s men should accept defeat.

Hull City, Steve Bruce and the players only have themselves to blame for being in the position they were today.

Those selected to feature for United appeared to already have their luggage packed for holidays lacking any real interest in the game itself. That made the encounter boring which is expected with any scoreless draws.

The Tigers came out fighting from the off but nothing developed in their favour. Two correct disallowed goal decisions gave Bruce the impression that it wasn’t going to be their day and momentum slowly vanished.

Victor Valdes was one of few positives we can take from the game after showcasing his terrific shot stopping skills. Then, on another note, his presence in the air, similar to David de Gea when he first arrived in England, needs working on.

Meanwhile, Newcastle clocked up a 2-0 scoreline against West Ham meaning Hull City could not do anything that would prevent relegation.

In a game that meant nothing for United having already secured fourth place, Marouane Fellaini provided a moment of madness in the second half receiving a red card for opening a gash on Paul McShane’s upper thigh. The Belgian needs his head examined for going into such a needless challenge and leaving his team-mates with more work to deal with.

The officials added seven minutes of stoppage time in the second half but that wasn’t enough for Hull City to grab a late winner.

Of course, it’s a shame to see Steve Bruce fail as a manager but we all hope he gets another opportunity to turn things around at the KC Stadium or proves to be a success elsewhere.

Liverpool may even come calling for his service… and if that’s a case, I’ll happily retract my comments about hoping he proves to be a success elsewhere.
