Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear that he believes football authorities need to clamp down hard on racism in attempt to kick it out.

The Manchester United manager has been very respectable towards the FA throughout the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra race row, whereas Kenny Dalglish has been the complete opposite before and after seeing his Uruguayan striker pick up an eight-match ban for his racist actions.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, similar incidents occurred not only with players but fans also. Several supporters have been arrested for the crime, while John Terry is due to stand trial in July for allegedly abusing Anton Ferdinand from Queens Park Rangers. However, last weekend Rio Ferdinand was booed for 90 minutes by the Chelsea supporters, who thought it showed support for their trouble-making captain.

Ferguson is shocked by the re-emergence of the problem, therefore, believes something serious needs to be done about it. He told CNN: “I don’t understand at all where it’s coming from.

“This is a moment where we have to take stock and we should do something about it if it’s surfacing again, and be really hard and firm on any form or shape of racism.

“There have been a couple of examples recently which is not good. In 2012, you can’t believe it. It was obvious maybe 20 years ago and the improvements have been for everyone to see.

“I have had some fantastic black players, absolutely magnificent black players, and with every one of them I have enjoyed my working relationship with them.”

Kenny Dalglish has somehow added fuel to the embers that are the Luis Suarez & Patrice Evra race row.

The Liverpool boss spoke bitterly after last night’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, despite claiming he was proud of the way his players performed. He re-affirmed his stance that Luis Suarez shouldn’t have been punished after being found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra during a Premier League encounter at Anfield in October.

“We don’t think he should ever have been away but we are delighted to get him back,” Dalglish said. “For me, Luis Suarez doesn’t have anything to prove to anyone at Liverpool FC.”

However, Liverpool travel to Old Trafford this weekend when Luis Suarez is expected to make his first start since picking up that 8 match ban for his actions. And with the timing of these comments, I can’t help but to question Daglish’s intelligence or awareness.

Before the FA Cup 4th round clash at Anfield, a few weeks ago, the Scot asked for the players and supporters to act in a ‘responsible’ manner. Yet after the game he responded to the boos Evra got for 90 minutes as “friendly banter,” when the French left back got all the abuse simply because of the way Suarez treated him. I guess that’s not surprising judging by the way he has acted throughout the FA’s investigation on the matter.

All this shit stirring is contributing to what will be a scorching atmosphere at Old Trafford, but I’ve no doubt that he will keep it up. And the Liverpool supporters will probably continue to laugh it off with their immature Suarez masks and t-shirts, but how would Bill Shankly react to the recent events? I doubt he’d be impressed.

David de Gea put in another top performance against one of England’s big teams yesterday when Manchester United drew 3-3 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Whenever the 21-year-old moves the British press are quick to throw criticism in his direction, ever since they labeled him a flop after his debut against City in the Community Shield. However, they were quick to contradict themselves yesterday when he did remarkably well to save Juan Mata’s brilliant free kick in the dying minutes.

Ferguson was quick to praise to young Spaniard after the game taking note of how he’s still not used to the English game, which is something people really need to put into account before jumping on the infamous bandwagon.

“We know his potential, we know he’s an outstanding talent and we’ve got to trust that,” said Ferguson. “We bought him on the promise that he could be our goalkeeper for 10 years and he showed that today. He dealt much better with all the aerial balls that came in. It’s experience. He’s not used to the English game, he’s had some bad moments this year in terms of dealing with that type of play. But today, I think he’s got the bit between his teeth and he’s done well.”

Manchester United kept themselves in touch with City at the top of the Premier League after a courageous fight back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 today at Stamford Bridge. The result may leave United 2 points behind City but they will take that after this run of games, and though they failed to win today there are many positives which United will take from the game that will only strengthen the team.

The 1st half was very even affair, United though the better side. Chelsea looked to keep it very tight at the back but United played some lovely intricate football around the Chelsea box. Chelsea themselves looking more cautious but still carried a threat from Mata who was moved into the centre of Midfield who looked to dictate Chelsea’s play. On the whole though much of their play was somewhat scrappy.

With United looking threatening going forward it wasn’t long before referee Howard Webb had his first big decision to make. Twisting and turning in the Chelsea penalty area Ashley Young, back in the United line up for the first time since Fulham away, was tugged and bungled down. The referee however for saw nothing in it and waved United pleas for a penalty away. The decision was baffling to say the least. Minutes later, more penalty appeals from United as Danny Welbeck was brought down on the edge of the box. Once again Howard Webb waved play on. As it turns out, the foul, which it clearly was, was outside the box. But by not giving United the foul Webb saved himself from having to make a big decision in the aftermath; Cahill was last man and it would have been a close call to whether he would have been sent off. Welbecks touch though was taking him away from goal so the likelihood is that he Cahill would have stayed on the pitch.

Chelsea had yet to cause Uniteds defence any real problems, perhaps just one ball into the box which David De Gea should have caught rather than weakly punching away. This, however, would be the only moment today which De Gea can be questioned on, his performance today was excellent and later he would save Uniteds skin. Rafael had been called in at Right Back to cover Chris Smalling who had picked up a knock in training on Friday. Rafael, best loved for his attacking attributes was today a rock in his defencive duties. But as happens so often it is the team with the lesser threat who strikes first, today was no exception.

Chelsea took the lead via a Johnny Evens own goal in the 36th minute. Sturridge had the better of Patrice Evra inside the United area, beating him far too easily with some quick footwork to get to the touchline where he closed on Uniteds goal. De Gea closed him down but Sturridge’s cross clipped off his foot onto the unlucky Evens before the ball found its way into the goal.

Uniteds response was to attack, and attack they did. It was a brilliant response from the Reds who put Chelsea under enormous pressure in pursuit of an equaliser. Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal had to save well from both Rooney and Welbeck. It was United though who went in at the break behind. The response to Chelsea’s goal gave great hope that there were goals in this for United in the 2nd half, and if they could keep up the pressure and pace that they had shown since the goal, they would surely turn this around.

However, in 5 crazy minutes at the start of the 2nd half what looked a game full of promise for United looked like one that was out of their reach. Just 24 seconds after the restart Torres crossed delightfully into the United box, where Mata found himself with all the time in the world on the corner of the six yard box to lash in a brilliant volley. There was no stopping it, though question marks over Velancia’s tracking back may be asked. Another momentary lapse in concentration just minutes later allowed Luiz a free header from a Mata free-kick. Luck was on Chelsea’s side, as it was for the 1st goal, as Luiz’s header came off both his and Rio Ferdinands shoulders. Luck it may have been, but once again it was far too easy for Chelsea to strike at Uniteds goal.

Three lapses in concentration and two slices of luck and United found themselves 3-0 down at Stamford Bridge with less than 40 minutes remaining. Most teams would have let their heads drop and taken a tactic of damage limitation. But not Manchester United. United never say die, and as impossible as it may have seemed, looked to fight their way back into a game they could ill afford to lose.

The come back began in the 58th minute when Sturridge clumsily brought down Evra in the box. This time Webb had little doubt and pointed to the spot. It was Wayne Rooney, back from injury, who stepped up to take it. Before today he had missed 3 penalties this season, scoring only 2, but he emphatically put the penalty into the top of the Chelsea net. With over half an hour remaining United looked to control midfield once again and put pressure on Chelsea, coming forward at every opportunity. The pressure paid off when Rooney fed Welbeck in the box in the 69th minute. Welbeck looked to pick the ball up and position himself for a strike but was lazily clipped by Ivanovic which lead to a second United spot kick. Having had two different penalty takers in the week against Stoke, and with Rooney’s fifty, fifty strike rate from the spot, it was a little surprising (not to mention tense) when it was Rooney again who stepped up to the pressure. He showed no sign of that pressure though as he convincingly scored again, sending Cech the wrong way. Incidentally United became the first team in the Premier League to have four consecutive goals from from four consecutive penalties.

With Fernando Torres failing to get a shot off when he was in a great position at 3-1 it was United who now looked like there would be no doubt that they would peg Chelsea back. There was always a threat from Chelsea on the break though and there were a few nervy moments when Uniteds defence had to be on their metal. They were though, Johnny Evens looking extremely composed alongside Ferdinand who was having to put up with a torrent of boos from Chelsea fans for being the brother of Anton Ferdinand. I could barely believe what I was hearing, but unfortunately football fans (not just Chelsea fans) can be rather ridiculous.

With Chelsea coming under more and more pressure from United Villa-Boas looked to sure Chelsea’s midfield up by bringing on Oriol Romeu. This move did look to have the desired affect for a little while, the game was now less open which suited Chelsea far more. Ferguson also looked to change things with Hernandez replacing Young and Paul Scholes coming on for Rafael. United kept plugging away though and got their just rewards in the 84th minute. Excellent work down the right by Valencia, who was now playing from Right Back, led to a cross into the the Chelsea box where Rooney controlled the ball and got a decent shot off which Cech could only parry wide. Giggs retrieved the ball and with plenty of time and space on the touchline, picked out Hernandez who’s fantastic movement away from Luiz aloud him a free header past Cech to jubilant celebrations.

With just minutes remaining it was United still on the offensive, looking to complete the come back. Unfortunately the pressure never quite led to that one final chance to complete an epic turn around. There were half hearted appeals for a third penalty when Luiz looked to control a United cross with his arm when it bounced through the crowded box. Giving a penalty for that would have been harsh as his arm was close to his side and there was no movement towards the ball. Cech was called into action from Michael Carrick and Rooney shots but they were efforts which you would be expecting the ‘keeper to make.

As it tuned out, it was Chelsea who came closest to taking all three points at the end but it was David De Gea who came to Uniteds rescue three times in injury time. The United ‘keeper has come under enormous pressure from the media and his confidence must be disparagingly low. However, he equipped himself well today, looking comfortable and assured with his decisions. Yes, there was the cross early on when he should have gathered but from then on he never gave anyone anything to question him. In fact, had another ‘keeper been in goal for United today it is quite possible that there would have been a final twist to this game.

A minute into injury time Luiz won a foul 20 yards from the United goal. When Mata struck the dead ball beautifully over the wall it looked to everyone that it was about the nestle into the top corner. However, De Gea at full stretch pulled off a world class save to claw the ball away for a corner. You will be hard pressed to see a better save in the Premier League this season. He was called into action again just two minutes later when Essien thundered a shot towards goal, De Gea got two stong hands onto to turn over for a corner. His work for the day wasn’t quite over and had to make one more excellent save from a fine Cahill 20 yard effort. De Gea’s performance today will help his confidence no end and should also help quieten those who are getting on his back.

It was a fabulous come back today from United, but there is a sense of disappointment too. This was a game United must have felt confident of winning with Chelsea missing many key players. Not to have won is a blow having gone into the game with confidence. But there is much to be taken from today; United showed that never say die spirit that is key in the run in to the title, there was also a lot of excellent football played going forward and the goals are coming once again. Finally, with Young and Rooney back from injury and Nani, Jones and Clverley not far away the squad is becoming stronger at the vital time.

Ahead of the game this weekend, we invited The Chelsea Blog on here to answer a few questions.

Peter Kenyon said in December 2008 that “in terms of breaking even, I think with will be 2010-11.” Well, figures from Chelsea’s recent budget show £67m worth of losses. Do you think the Torres deal is partly to blame for this?

Kenyon? You mean the ‘born and bred red’? Is anyone really surprised he talked shit? Given that if we hadn’t bought Nando and Luiz, then paid off Ancelotti, we wouldn’t have £67m worth of losses, of course the deal makes up part of that.

City have improved this season, competing with us in the title race. Do you think Chelsea’s time has come and gone without any European success?

No. To be fair, it’s taken City more time and money than it did us to get to the top of the table and let’s not forget they still haven’t actually won the title yet. Our current situation has been coming for a while, we’ve just managed to paper over the cracks until now. Irrespective of what other supporters might think though, I have complete faith in AVB building us a squad capable of challenging again, in fact more than that, I think he’ll eventually do what the others haven’t and give us sustainable success.

Links recently suggested that Ferguson was interested in bringing Fat Frank to Old Trafford. Would you have been disappointed to see him leave Chelsea?

I’d have laughed my arse off to be honest. Not that I think Frank’s ready to be put out to pasture or anything, he’s been a fantastic player for us and still has something to offer (in a different way), but the irony of him pulling on a United shirt? Would’ve been priceless.

What should be done with John Terry in regard to the video which clearly shows the Chelsea captain calling Anton Ferdinand a “black c*nt”? The case was delayed Wednesday and he was stripped of the England captaincy on Friday.

Are you suggesting he shouldn’t be innocent until proven guilty? If he’s found guilty then fine, take what you like off him but as far as I’m aware our judicial system hasn’t changed its stance especially for this case.

Looking at our current squad, taking note of the injuries, which United player do you fear mostly and why?

You have injuries? Wish someone had mentioned it. You have a few with the ability to show us up if we play like we did midweek. Valencia, Wellbeck, or Nani if he’s back are all more than capable. Our defence has had more trouble keeping clean sheets this season than your average brothel and in spite of Cole’s poorer form lately, his absence means a change to the back four we could do without in a game like this.

How would you feel if Jose Mourinho became our manager in the coming years? Do you believe he was hunted out of Chelsea?

Are you serious? I remember all too well how much you lot slaughtered him at Chelsea – his non-football, his arrogance, his transfers – I’d bloody love it if he brought all of that to United. And to see reds I argued for hours with when they were calling him all the cocks under the sun, shamelessly kissing his arse – oh my god, I’d pay for his flight!

As for being hounded out of Chelsea, firstly Jose was the master of his own downfall. What may have started as an attempt to assert himself with the opposition (and the press of course), ended up with him turning into Coco the Clown. It was a bloody circus! Secondly, whilst he might have initially cast himself in the role of the victim, he later admitted the decision to leave was entirely his and he actually wished he’d made it sooner. Not surprising really, considering he prefers to leave looking like the hero when in actual fact, there was nothing particularly heroic about our start to the 2007/08 season.

Predictions for the game this Sunday?

I’d say it’s a fair bet Webb will play a significant part in the game somewhere along the line. As for the score…….surely everyone knows by now I don’t do predictions?

Being a Manchester United fan during the January transfer market made some feel like they were children again. Sitting inside your house watching your friends have fun outside, through your window. We felt grounded and that’s pretty much been the case ever since the Glazers took over in 2005, with a few exceptions.

However, on deadline day we witnessed a bit of activity. Ravel Morrison moved down south to West Ham signing a three year contract and Manchester City’s Frederic Veseli joined us because he didn’t feel like he was making any progress with the blues.

Ravel Morrison’s departure disappointed many Reds that followed the start of his career, moving swiftly through the ranks at United. Some people went as far as touting him to be the biggest prospect at United since Paul Scholes. That, especially for an 18-year-old, is a lot of praise but he sadly didn’t seem interested.

It was late last year when Ferguson and his staff decided they had enough of Morrison’s antics. Danny Taylor covered it brilliantly for the Guardian this month suggesting that United were struggling to keep control of the youngster which to some extent is true.

“I’m really pleased to have signed,” said Morrison after putting pen to paper with the Hammers.

“The move has happened very quickly and I’m looking forward to hopefully moving up to the Premier League with West Ham soon. I’m an attacking player and I’m hoping to get the fans on their feet. I met with Sam Allardyce this morning and he welcomed me to the club. I also played with Robert Hall in the England team and I know him well so that will be really helpful to have someone here that I know.”

**

Early Tuesday morning when Ravel was on his way to London, Manchester Evening News broke the story that we had signed Frederic Veseli from our noisy neighbours.

The 19-year-old defender joined City in 2008 but has become frustrated because he doesn’t feel like he’s made any progress with the lack of first team opportunities. The Swiss international made his debut for the bitters during a pre-season friendly, although, he knew his time with City was up when Stefan Savic started ahead of him with Vincent Kompany being absent due to suspension.

Veseli, now nicknamed Fred the Red, captained the Swiss U-17 side to World Cup glory back in 2009. He was praised by City’s academy staff for his composure on the ball and being capable of playing in a number of positions, including midfield.

We all know the story of ‘Fergie’s Fledglings’, those famous six, young, enthusiastic players that came through by ’94 and took league, and world, by storm. The story that also involved the decision for Sir Alex Ferguson to release some of his most senior of fighters, which, in doing so, placed an even heavier burden on the already young squad that they burst into. A decision which, some would argue, to date earmarks his greatest achievement. Yet I ask, whether, like when bringing in Henrik Larsson for those three magical months, the revival of Paul Scholes’ career could stand with, or above, that achievement in the early nineties.

Following three relatively unsuccessful seasons, Manchester United finally held position in January ’07 to knock Chelsea off their perch, and claim back the Premier League crown. It was in this transfer window, a place where those in power at the club usually carry out very little business, that Sir Alex made the most important move in, the chess board that is, the Premiership title race. The announcement of a three-month loan for Swedish legend Henrik Larsson, to bolster a young attack force of Rooney and Ronaldo. It was his vital moves, passes and goals, that saw off otherwise difficult opponents, and gave the United body the passion it needed to complete the season as champions. Though he didn’t affectively win the campaign, as Messi can do for Barcelona, it was the ingenuity to give one of footballs greatest a chance to perform on the one stage he had missed throughout his career, and influence those that had never seen success on that scale, first hand.

It was with a hammer blow to those looking to challenge Manchester United, when the decision for Paul Scholes to return to the playing staff was announced. Though having not played competitive football for the first half the season, it was hard to see how the ‘little wizard’ couldn’t weave his tricks on one last hurrah. Though this shares some major differences with the Larsson case, the fact that Scholes had already previously played for the club, it is the idea that experience and presence can influence more than just the result. It also, like in ’07, brings the passion and belief to the young, who would otherwise feel such strains on doing what United do best, chasing down the premier league leaders. They now have a safeguard, to guide them past, and through the most difficult of games. It is also fair to add, from the first few performances, that he could also, like Henrik Larsson, have a profound impact on the field as well.

The legacy that was made in ’94 when bringing in the greatest batch of English youth players of a generation, may have had a more lasting effect on the club, making it a golden moment in the clubs history. It has been a revelation of all proportions to dream, and carry out the signing of Henrik Larsson in that first push to reclaim the title. But to bring back one the most experienced premier league legends, and hero’s, to bolster the squad, could yet prove to be the pinnacle of a very successful mans career.
