Barcelona mulling over plan for 19 y/o starlet amid Manchester United interest

Barcelona find themselves at a crossroads with 19-year-old defender Mikayil Faye. The La Liga giants will either decide to promote the young star to the first team, or else opt to consider one of the lucrative offers that has been presented.

Faye, who was recently linked with a move to Manchester United, is yet to play for Barcelona’s first team. It is his recent appearances for the Senegal national team that have thrown him into the spotlight and now he’s attracting interest from the biggest clubs in the world.

According to Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona face a crucial decision regarding Faye. They must give him opportunities in the first team or cash in.

It is believed a paid loan deal or outright sale including a buyback option would be considered.

Faye is under contract with Barcelona until 2027 and it’s only a matter of time before the Senegalese prospect makes the big step. The biggest problem he faces at Camp Nou is the competition he has in central defence.

It is a daunting task for a played aged 19 to break into the Barca side, especially when Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi are deemed indispensable. Not to forget fellow centre-backs Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, Jules Kounde, Clement Lenglet and Eric Garcia.

Barcelona also need to look at selling players so that they can bring in fresh faces this summer. I just hope we avoid another tiresome Frenkie de Jong saga.
