Manchester United eye swoop for £40m-rated Wolves star as Casemiro replacement

Manchester United will be busy in the summer transfer window. The Reds plan to sell several players to make room for new additions.

One player facing an uncertain future is Brazil international Casemiro and he needs to be replaced by a younger holding midfielder.

Casemiro joined United for £70 million in August 2022, but the former Real Madrid star has struggled this season and that has led to further speculation about him being replaced at the end of the season.

According to The Mirror, United are weighing up a move for £40 million-rated Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

Gomes could be in line to replace his fellow Brazilian at Old Trafford after being the subject of several United scouting trips this season.

The 23-year-old joined Wolves for £12m from Flamengo in January 2023 and he is expected to be handed his first cap for Brazil against Gareth Southgate’s side at Wembley on Saturday.

United and Brazil were both dealt a blow last weekend when Casemiro sustained a fresh hamstring injury. This meant he missed the 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals as well as the March internationals.

Tottenham and Newcastle are also credited with interest in Gomes.

The report adds that Wolves have already begun the search for a replacement, should they end up selling Gomes.
