Barcelona and Juventus failed in attempts to sign on-loan Manchester United midfielder in January

Even though Sofyan Amrabat hasn’t adapted to the English game like he would have liked, Manchester United were reluctant to see his loan spell at the club come to a premature end in January.

Amrabat is currently on a season-long loan at United from Fiorentina, with the Reds agreeing to pay the Italian club €10 million for his services.

News has emerged that enquiries were made about the Morocco international breaking his United loan and signing for another European club.

According to Fabrizio Romano via YouTube, Barcelona and Juventus both enquired about Amrabat, but United were unwilling to cooperate.

Amrabat may not be performing at a very high level or warrant a permanent deal to remain at Old Trafford beyond this season, but the last thing Erik ten Hag needed in January was to lose a player that can play at left-back or central midfield without there being a replacement. Not during a season during which we can’t get a break from injuries.

This may be deemed a positive update from Amrabat’s perspective because he will hope that either Barcelona or Juventus show an interest in him at the end of the season.

However, it doesn’t look like he will be getting a deal at United.

The 27-year-old midfielder has started just seven Premier League games and he is yet to record a goal contribution.

Let us know in the comments section if you would keep Amrabat at United.
