United deemed frontrunners in pursuit of longstanding defender target whose price tag has been revealed

Manchester United’s longstanding interest in Denzel Dumfries could finally materialise this summer after numerous years of endless links.

The next transfer window will be the first one of United operating under INEOS’ control and guidance as Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent acquisition in the club was formally announced last week, following a lengthy ratification period by the Premier League.

Given that United look set to end yet another campaign trophyless, with the FA Cup their only shot at lifting a trophy in Erik ten Hag’s sophomore season, Ratcliffe will undoubtedly be looking to oversee a significant reshuffle in the squad, who’ve been nowhere near the levels expected of the 20-time champions.

Dumfries, 27, has one year remaining on his contract at the San Siro and as it stands, Inter are struggling to tie him down to a new, long-term deal.

Should he opt to ply his trade elsewhere, this summer will be the Serie A outfit’s only opportunity to recoup a fee for the Dutchman’s services; they’ll know his value more than anyone and the impact he could have on another side, so will do everything in their power to stop him leaving for nothing.

Dumfries’ price tag revealed

Alas, TuttoSport claims that Dumfries is valued at around £47 million by Inter, which is the price United will have to pay if they want the experienced defender commanding their backline next term.
