Paris Saint-Germain could reignite their pursuit of Marcus Rashford should Kylian Mbappe depart for Real Madrid this summer.
The Ligue 1 leaders previously attempted – and failed – to acquire the Manchester United star’s signature but may try their hand again at the end of the season when looking to bolster their attack.
Their prolific talisman Mbappe continues to be linked with Madrid, as has been the case for the past few years, and he could finally make the switch from the Parc des Princes to the Santiago Bernabeu after six years in his home city.
PSG will certainly have their work cut out in replacing their all-time top goalscorer (241) but seemingly believe that Rashford, who earns a reported £300,000 per week, would be able to replicate a similar job. Last season was the best of the Englishman’s career to date after he scored 30 goals across the term and played an integral role in the Reds ending a six-year trophy drought, reaching the FA Cup final and claiming a Champions League spot.
Indeed, his form at the beginning of 2023/2024 left a lot to be desired, but after notching three goals and an assist in his last five Premier League outings, it looks as though the 26-year-old is hitting the consistency levels that Erik ten Hag desires.
Transfer journalist weighs in on PSG’s Rashford interest
Ben Jacobs spoke to CaughtOffside to share his verdict on the matter, explaining: “Marcus Rashford is also a historical PSG target. The club were keen prior to Rashford extending his stay at Old Trafford, but after taking meetings in Paris they felt they were being used as leverage.
“Rashford is still committed to Manchester United, but a summer swoop from PSG can’t be entirely ruled out. However, Rashford would first have to indicate he has changed his stance on leaving otherwise PSG don’t want to waste time trying for a transfer without clear player buy in.”
