Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has picked who he believes is the club’s ‘most prized asset’ from the current crop of players.
The treble winner opted for frontman Marcus Rashford, who is the current holder of the Reds’ Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.
He oversaw the most prolific campaign of his career last season after netting 30 goals for the first-ever time and playing an integral role in United ending a six-year trophy drought, reaching the FA Cup final and claiming a Champions League spot.
While Rashford’s form at the beginning of 2023/2024 left a lot to be desired, he’s now on a run of three goals and one assist across his past five Premier League matches, and he’ll be looking to keep up the momentum from now until the summer to try and finish the campaign on a high.
In January, the 26-year-old found himself in hot water after two nights of clubbing in Belfast led to him reporting ill for a training session and consequently being dropped for United’s FA Cup win over Newport County. The disciplinary matter was dealt with internally by those involved and Rashford returned to the squad as usual last week, having taken full accountability for the incident.

“I don’t condone his behaviour,” Yorke said of Rashford’s mishap on Premier League Productions.“We have all been there as players. I have made my fair share of mistakes in the past and you learn from it.
“He is the most prized asset at Manchester United football club, in my opinion. When I was doing my coaching, I looked at him and I observed him for two weeks at Manchester United. This guy is very collective.
“I know people probably have different opinions about it. But what I have seen of him close up, to the way he approaches training and what he does. I think last season is where his mind should be. This season, when we expect him again to kick on, then it’s a little bit more challenging. But we don’t know the ins and outs of the goings-on behind the scenes.
“If I was the manager, this is the one person I would want by my side, week in and week out because he is that good. He is capable, as we have seen last season, of what he can do.”
