Scott McTominay has named former Premier League star as the best player he’s faced

The toughest midfield battles he has faced, according to Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, were with former Chelsea player Eden Hazard.

The Belgian star mostly played on the wide side of attack but he was always given the freedom to roam and he often came into the centre where McTominay would come up against him.

Asked by FootballJoe who was the “best player” he faced, McTominay answered:

“In terms of midfield players the game has changed so much and it’s so fluid. You have people like Eden Hazard dropping into a 10 role and you have to defend against him.”

“He’s predominantly a winger and an attacker, but sometimes you do come up one vs one against him, so I would say him.”

Hazard departed Chelsea in 2019 and played four seasons at Real Madrid troubled by injuries. He announced his retirement from professional football in October of last year.

The Manchester United midfielder is enjoying his time as a goal scorer while playing in a more advanced role for club and country.

McTominay scored more goals for Scotland in the Euro 2024 qualifiers than Erling Haaland did for Norway.
The 27-year-old has scored six goals for United this season in all competitions, including crucial braces in victories over Brentford and Chelsea.

Instead of spending his time marking players now, McTominay is used to making runs in the opposition box and scoring goals. At a time when Man United needed someone to score goals from the midfielder, McTominay has stepped up and taken the responsibility.
