Ligue 1 outfit deny negotiations with Manchester United striker

It would be fair to say the vast majority of Manchester United fans weren’t overly impressed by news on Wednesday that Anthony Martial is not interested in a move away from Old Trafford this month, as he intends to stay and ‘fight’ for his place in Erik ten Hag’s team.

The Frenchman has a peculiar way of showing that he is committed to the cause after going down in our estimations in recent seasons, and you can’t blame those that believe he’s only seeing out his contract because he won’t get a similar deal in Europe.

The report from Sky Sports suggested Martial had rejected interest from Marseille, Fenerbahce and the Saudi Arabian Premier League.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Ligue 1 outfit Marseille deny that talks took place over a deal for Martial. The respected journalist shared the following update on X: “Anthony Martial has never been discussed as an option for Olympique Marseille. Club didn’t reject anything as negotiations never took place.

“The situation around Martial remains quiet so far.

“More: no talks taking place over new deal with Man United.”

Martial has entered the final six months of his contract and is likely to leave the club on a Bosman at the end of the season. United have an option to trigger a 12-month extension, but he doesn’t deserve to be kept on his current wages considering he’s rarely available for selection.
