Southampton express interest in loan deal for Manchester United starlet

Southampton reportedly want to sign Amad Diallo in January.

The Saints’ interest in a loan deal has been reported this evening by Football Insider. The publication claims the Championship outfit are long-term admirers of the 21-year-old winger and believe he can aid their chances of promotion to the top flight.

Football Insider states that Russell Martin’s Southampton and his recruitment team are pushing hard to land Diallo in the winter. They are currently fourth in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League last term.

Amad had intended to finally make his United breakthrough this season until those plans were scuppered when he suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season. The Ivory Coast international is still going through his recovery and has yet to make an appearance for the first-team this season.

After joining United in 2021 for a reported fee of £37 million, Amad has only made nine appearances for the Reds, scoring once against AC Milan in the Europa League.

However, he enjoyed a prolific campaign on loan at Sunderland last season under the now-fired Tony Mowbray. Amad scored 14 goals and created four assists after appearing 43 times across all competitions for the Black Cats.

Sunderland benefited from the youngster’s influence on the right flank as they surprisingly reached the semi-finals of the play-offs. That was when Luton Town beat them over two legs on their quest to the Premier League.
