Manchester United were rocked by the heartbreaking news that club legend and footballing icon Sir Bobby Charlton had passed away, with the club confirming the news on Saturday evening.
The announcement came just hours before United face Sheffield United and since then, tributes have flooded in from current and former players.
Charlton was part of the Busby Babes and was a senior player at the club for 17 years, holding the all-time goalscoring record from 1973 to 2017 before falling behind Wayne Rooney.
He is also one of England’s biggest names of all time, guiding them to their only World Cup win in 1966. He was also England’s greatest goalscorer before being overtaken by Rooney.
Gary Neville, part of another famous group of United players, has paid an emotional tribute to the late icon, as seen below.

“Manchester United’s greatest representative around the world and has been for 50, 60 years,” Neville said on Sky Sports, as seen above.
“When you think he was one of the original Busby Babes who’s part of that tragic Munich air crash and survived and lost a lot of his team-mates and colleagues in that but came through.
“Obviously, won youth cups at Manchester United in the early days under Sir Matt Busby then obviously, went on to win the European Cup, the World Cup,” Neville added before continuing to shine a light on one of the most significant people in footballing history.
The club is mourning the passing of a true icon. United players will wear black armbands in honour of Chartlon later tonight at Bramall Lane.
