Roy Hodgson proud of his players after win over Manchester United

Crystal Palace got more than what they probably wanted at Old Trafford. Roy Hodgson’s side didn’t exactly play for a win and I’m sure they would have shook our hand for a point prior to kick-off.

Even though United are a side teams are getting at this season, we did knock Palace out of the Carabao Cup last week. It was a dominating display and we put three goals past them.

However, United failed to break down Hodgson’s Eagles on Saturday. The former Liverpool and England manager felt they were able to influence United’s tactics and, more specifically, Casemiro’s positioning which has been a problem this season.

Hodgson told Crystal Palace’s official website: “The shape from the start and the pressurising from the start, as opposed to the other night — which was a totally different team to be fair — I though we put players under a lot more pressure on the ball.

“Casemiro dropped deep and they were finding it harder to hit the passes they were hitting against us on Tuesday, and as a result it was easier for our defenders.”

Palace defended well and United weren’t clinical enough with the chances they created. Marcus Rashford is struggling to find the back of the net and it sounds like Erik ten Hag is standing by the player who netted 30 times last term.

Sadly, I am not one bit surprised by anything Hodgson pointed out about United. Other teams have took advantage of the fact Casemiro doesn’t have any defensive cover in midfield and he often looks isolate in the middle of the pitch. Not a shadow of the player we seen dominate games during his first season at Old Trafford.

Hopefully we seen an improvement from Casemiro and other key players in the coming weeks. Ten Hag needs it if results are to pick up.
