25-year-old signs for Championship club following Manchester United release in summer

Axel Tuanzebe has signed for Ipswich Town as a free agent following his release from Manchester United this summer.

The 25-year-old will play under former Red Devils coach Kieran McKenna, who received plaudits for his impact at Ipswich since taking over in December 2021. Last season, he guided the side to League One promotion and currently has them sitting second in the Championship after five games.

Tuanzebe will also join fellow Carrington graduate Brandon Williams at Portman Road, as he is spending the campaign on loan with the East Anglian outfit.

Tuanzebe’s United exit

The defender made 37 appearances with United before his contract expired in June, 19 of which came in the Premier League. He also completed loan spells with Aston Villa, Napoli and Stoke City.

Injuries plagued Tuanzebe’s career and largely impacted his selection in United’s senior squad until he fell in the pecking order entirely. Hopefully, he can now put his fitness woes behind him and enjoy his football again with frequent game time.
