Manchester United considered recalling loan star in January

Manchester United considered recalling youngster Amad Diallo from his loan with Sunderland in the January transfer window.

The Ivorian has enjoyed a scintillating loan spell so far with the Black Cats, registering 12 goals and four assists in 39 appearances, 29 of which have been as a starter, across all competitions.

According to Telegraph Sport, the Red Devils hierarchy held discussions over terminating Amad’s loan prematurely after the glistening reports they’d been receiving, but instead opted against the idea as they didn’t want the attacker to come back to the club and spend the second half of the campaign on the bench.

Tony Mowbray’s side have one game remaining, in which they’ll try to clinch a spot in the play-off places before Amad returns to his parent club.

Ten Hag will monitor Amad

The report confirms that Erik ten Hag will keep a close eye on the 20-year-old throughout United’s pre-season and will hope to make a decision on his future based on what he sees in the summer.

Understandably, Sunderland are keen to have him back at the Stadium of Light, but it’s up to Ten Hag to determine whether Amad is ready to take on the challenge of Premier League football with the Reds.
