Matty Longstaff goal piles more pressure on Solskjaer as Man Utd drop to 12th

Matty Longstaff scored on his Premier League debut to give Newcastle a 1-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday.

The midfielder started alongside his brother Sean Longstaff, who was linked to the Red Devils over the summer, and he hammered home his effort from 20-yards in the 72nd minute.

Another bad result away from home — stretching to winless run to 11 games — and it heaps the pressure on United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while we drop to 12th in the league table.

It’s United lowest points tally after eight games since 1989-90, with nine points from eight games which is borderline relegation form.

Moreover, this evening’s game was Steve Bruce’s first win against his former club as a manager. It took him 23 attempts and it landmark came in his 400th game as a Premier League match.

Solskjaer’s men struggled to have much impact as they tried to find an equaliser in the closing stages and their inability to find the back of the net resulted in a third league defeat of the season.

Thankfully we’ll exchange another defeat next week with the international break coming into play…
