Solskjaer explains Brandon Williams selection for Manchester United v AZ Alkmaar

Brandon Williams has earned his first competitive start for Manchester United against AZ Alkmaar tonight.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has selected Williams at left-back, alongside Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the Reds in last month’s Carabao victory over Rochdale at Old Trafford, and gets a start in a new look United team tonight.

It’s great to see the youngster getting his chance to shine, after a hugely impressive start to the season under Neil Wood for the u23.

Williams is one of eight changes Solskjaer has made, with fellow academy graduates Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood starting in attack alongside Daniel James.

Nemanja Matic also returns to the starting line-up, partnering Fred in midfield.

Solskjaer was full of praise for Williams before kick-off, saying he has been ‘fantastic all season’ for the reserves side.
