Solskjaer handed double injury boost as two Man Utd defenders return to training

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed a welcome injury boost with the return of Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Luke Shaw to first-team training.

Shaw has not featured for the Reds since picking up a hamstring injury in the defeat to Crystal Palace last month.

Fosu-Mensah, meanwhile, has been out for five months after suffering a knee ligament injury whilst on loan at Fulham.

Solskjaer currently has a host of injury problems with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and Diogo Dalot out of the Arsenal clash at Old Trafford.

However, the Norwegian revealed there is a chance Shaw could make his return on Monday night.

“Luke’s back in training today, so let’s see how he is,” Solskjaer said in Friday’s press conference, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“He’s getting there so let’s see how he reacts the next couple of days. He’s been working really hard, so we hope to see him before the international break. Maybe Monday, but not too sure.”

Despite Shaw having a fairly slow start to the season before his injury, his presence has been missed in defence.

The 24-year-old is far better suited in the left-back role than Ashley Young who has been occupying the position in his absence.

Perhaps Shaw will get his chance to return to action against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League group stage game next Thursday if he is not ready for Monday night’s test against the fourth-placed Gunners.

Fosu-Mensah will be looking to build back match fitness and get some minutes under his belt for the u23 side as he looks to make his way into Solskjaer’s first-team plans.
