Man Utd injury update: Attacking duo facing return against Arsenal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the fitness of attacking duo Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood ahead of next week’s Premier League encounter against Arsenal.

Manchester United are short of options up front this season, and with both Martial and Greenwood missing the defeat against West Ham on Sunday, while Marcus Rashford added to Solskjaer’s injury woes by going off injured during the second half.

Given that United have already been so poor in front of goal this season, Solskjaer need these players back as they host Arsenal at Old Trafford next Monday.

It might help that Arsenal are woeful at the back.

Anyhow, Greenwood impressed in the 1-0 Europa League win over FK Astana last Thursday as he scored the game’s only goal, and now may be his time to make a greater impression with Rashford needing a scan on the injured he picked up against the Hammers.

Solskjaer sounds optimistic both players could be back to face the Gunners, while one of them might even be ready to take on Rochdale in the Carabao Cup one Wednesday night.

“It’s just one of these moments,” Solskjaer said about Rashford’s injury against West Ham, as per The Metro.

“We’ve had historically loads of centre-backs over the last few years struggling with injuries, we’ve gone down here with Michael Carrick playing centre-back — I don’t know if he played here — and Darren Fletcher.

“And art the moment it’s strikers. That’s just how it’s gone. Hopefully Mason and Anthony will be back for definitely Arsenal, hopefully one of them against Rochdale.”

Solskjaer added that Pogba might be available against Rochdale as he needs game time before taking on Arsenal: “Hopefully he [Pogba] will be available for Rochdale midweek.”
