Alexis Sanchez is the latest Manchester United star to have failed in the prestigious number 7 jersey.
From the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo, we are now becoming more accustomed to the likes of Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia and Sanchez wearing the famous shirt.
Sanchez, who has endured a disastrous 19 months at United scoring just five times, is set to leave the club before the European transfer window shuts on September 2.
As per BBC Sport, the Chilean will join up with former United teammate Romelu Lukaku at Inter Milan on an initial loan spell.

Most United fans thought the Chilean was finally the world-class player who would not collapse under the expectation of the number 7 shirt.
We don’t think the shirt had anything to do with the 30-year-old’s failure however; his confidence was shattered and he was plagued with injuries during his time at Old Trafford.
With the number 7 now vacant, it begs the question who the next player will be to have the responsibility.
Some fans even think they have found the player who should wear the number 7 next.
Finally!
Goodbye @Alexis_Sanchez 👋🏽
Thanks for wasting my money on your shirt. Another failed No.7Couldn’t be happier that Ole has started clearing out. Give the kids a chance. Maybe they’ll prove themselves. Maybe they won’t. Only 1 way to figure it out ☝🏽#MUFC @olegs26_ole https://t.co/PCCVxno0d6

#Alexis Sanchez :-
– worst player to ever wear #7 shirt
– paying majority of wages to play for Inter
– no option to buy at the end
– lack of depth in current squad
– no intention of replacing him
– no intention of playing him#GlazersOut #mufc #WoodwardOut #FiveKeyQuestions pic.twitter.com/YZDb65RufY— FPL_Steve 🔰 (@FPL_Steve_) August 28, 2019
Sayonara Sanchez. I hope I get to see someone genuinely worthy of the No. 7 shirt again soon. #MUFC

I think the No.7 shirt has caught a curse or something. Should be just retired at this point. #MUFC

Lesson learnt from the Sanchez signing is whoever the next #mufc number seven is his arrival will have to be given about as much fanfare as Lee Grant's. Sanchez was the South American Michael Owen: Helped decide a memorable derby. That was about it.

Sooooooo Alexis Sanchez leaves #mufc from now on do not hand out the no.7 shirt. Every player must earn that number. It’s been ruined way too many times. #MUFC #woodwardout
