Man Utd make transfer stance on midfielder amid Fiorentina interest

Manchester United reportedly want to keep hold of Brazilian midfielder Fred this summer.

The 26-year-old has not featured for the Reds this season, but still remains part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.

That’s according to a report in the Times, that claim Fred held talks with Solskjaer over his future last week and will now remain at Old Trafford.

La Nazione (via Calcio Mercato), as cited by Sport Witness, had suggested United had made the midfielder available for €30m, with Fiorentina registering an interest in the transfer

Fred missed part of United’s pre-season tour this summer because of wedding plans and is yet to be part of a match-day squad, but is believed to have been assured he will get first-team opportunities this season.

The Reds are light in midfield options having failed to sign a replacement for Ander Herrera this summer, so Fred may be needed when the Europa League group stage starts and Solskjaer looks to rotate his team.

Fred has only had one season at Old Trafford since his £52m (Sky Sports) arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk, so should be given another chance to prove his worth in midfield to the United boss after an inconsistent first campaign.
