Report: Fiorentina interested in signing Man Utd midfielder valued at €30m

According to surprise reports in Italy, Fiorentina could make a late move for Manchester United midfielder Fred.

The Brazilian midfielder is yet to feature under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, after joining up on the pre-season tour late following his wedding.

La Nazione (via Calcio Mercato), as cited by Sport Witness, claim that Fiorentina club director Danielle Pradé has been in contact with United chiefs sounding out a potential move.

The report claims that the 26-year-old could be made available for €30m, significantly less than the £52m (Sky Sports) United paid for him from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer.

Fred has only had one season at Old Trafford and now should not be the time to cash in on the midfielder.

He was often wasteful in possession and lacked composure on the ball last season, but should be given another run of games to prove himself before a decision is made to let him go.

Fred did make some encouraging performances last season, and is always busy and enthusiastic to get involved in the centre of the park.

Given United’s worrying lack of midfield options, it would be foolish to sell Fred and not give him another chance in the first-team, with games coming thick and fast when the Europa League group stages begin at the end of September.
