Man Utd’s £80m defensive target to miss friendly amid transfer links

Manchester United target Harry Maguire will not take part in Leicester City’s pre-season game against Scunthorpe tonight, as reported by the Mirror.

However, his absence has nothing to do with an imminent move; the 26-year-old was given extra time off by Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers following England’s Nations League games earlier this summer.

Sky Sports report that Maguire has told Rodgers that he wants to leave Leicester this summer, with the Reds and Man City both linked with the defender. It looks like United are pushing harder for a move however, as reported by Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solekhol.

With Maguire wanting a transfer this summer and United fighting for the 26-year-old’s signature, surely a deal will eventually be struck.

If the Reds can match Leicester’s valuation for the player they will finally have an established centre-back who could strike a successful partnership with Victor Lindelof in defence.
