‘Flattered’ Man Utd defensive target wants £80m move to boyhood club

Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire is reportedly keen to join boyhood club Manchester United this summer.

According to Goal, Maguire is ‘flattered’ by United’s interest and wants to join manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to lead the rebuild process.

The 26-year-old defender is said to be Solskjaer’s prime defensive target this summer with the club desperately needing a centre-back.

Goal’s report states that the Reds are pushing to complete a deal for Maguire, who is set to cost a huge fee.

Leicester are said to be waiting for an offer of £80m for United sign the England international, who has established himself as the best central defender in Gareth Southgate’s side.

Despite Maguire being hugely expensive, it seems as though Solskjaer has identified him as the ideal option to partner Victor Lindelof in defence.

Lindelof is currently United’s best central defender and a partnership with Maguire could work well. The Reds cannot consistently  rely on the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling again at the back next season.

Maguire fits the current recruitment plan with the emphasis on young, British talent, following moves for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
