Man Utd risk losing out to Premier League rivals for Belgian star valued at £40m

Manchester United may lose out to Leicester City in the race to sign Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to reports.

Evening Standard reporter James Robson claims Tielemans has been identified by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer, as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba who wants to leave Old Trafford.

The report claims that United have already held talks with Tielemans, who is believed to be valued around £40m.

However, Robson also states that Tielemans is closing in on a move to Leicester, the club he spent the second part of last season on loan with.

Tielemans settled into life in the Premier League brilliantly last season, scoring 3 goals and 4 assists in just 13 domestic appearances (who scored). The 22-year-old has returned back to Monaco after his loan spell in the Midlands ended, but is expected to leave the Ligue 1 side this summer.

Tielemans fits the mould of an exciting young talent Solskjaer is trying to sign this summer and the Reds should go toe to toe with Leicester for the player’s signature. The reported value of £40m is very reasonable for a player in today’s market with such high potential, and Tielemans could be an ideal replacement for Pogba, with funds still available to strengthen elsewhere.
