Man Utd must pay £75m to secure transfer of 22-year-old West Ham star

Manchester United will have to pay a huge £75m fee to sign West Ham defender Issa Diop this summer, according to a report in the Telegraph.

The report states that West Ham are not prepared to let their star defender go this summer, and a hefty price tag has been set to put off potential suitors including the Red Devils.

Diop, 22, joined West Ham from French side Toulouse last summer, for a reported £22m (BBC). He starred in West Ham’s side last season, helping them to a comfortable mid-table position in the league.

The French under 21 international represents another young talent who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly interested in acquiring this summer, though surely this ridiculous price for a player who has only started one season in the Premier League will make the Reds seek alternatives.

Meanwhile, The Sun reports that the Reds are still pushing for a move for Leicester centre-back Harry Maguire, although an absurd world-record £90m transfer fee has been touted for the Englishman. According to the report, United are willing to let Andreas Pereira leave the club this summer as a makeweight in the move.

The Reds are at risk of being priced out of moves for both these Premier League defenders, and may have to look elsewhere to secure a signing in a position that surely must be strengthened this summer.

There is no doubt Maguire and Diop are both talented defenders, but are not of an elite level that would have a dramatic impact in changing United’s defensive fortunes next season.
