Deal done soon: Man Utd close in on Swansea City’s Daniel James, personal terms agreed

According to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports, Swansea City winger Daniel James is set to become Manchester United’s first signing of the summer.

That means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing as manager of this great club, and hopefully one the Norwegian will reflect on with great moments.

James obviously won’t be a marquee signing, but I take encouragement from United trying something different this summer instead of throwing money on stars who also bring commercial benefits to any club they play for…

At least with James, 21 and playing in the Championship, he will be hungry to take this big opportunity. It could go the same way Wilfried Zaha’s transfer from Crystal Palace to United went, but is the other approach just to keep signing these big names without getting the results?

United need players with character. Hungry players who hate losing.

Solhekol says no deal is done yet, but it should be soon with personal terms already sorted.

Solskjaer was asked about the interest in James ahead of his final press conference of the season and he decided to swerve the situation.

“I don’t know how many names have been mentioned since I’ve come in,” said the manager, as quoted by The Metro.

“There are players I’ve nearly seen that I’ve read we are going to sign. There’s loads of speculation.

“I can’t comment on every single individual.

“Many players, as I’ve said. I don’t like when other managers talk about my players and I wouldn’t talk about others, even if I wasn’t or if I was interested.”

James was left out of Swansea’s draw at Blackburn in the final game of the season.
