Man Utd back in the hunt for Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld

According to The Sun’s Warren Haughton, Manchester United have their eyes on Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld again.

The Reds are expected to sign a top centre-back in the summer and Alderweireld has been a target for over a year. While other defensive targets are younger than the 30-year-old, his experience could be key in United’s defence.

Noted in the story, Alderweireld has a £25 million release clause in his contract this summer, so United wouldn’t necessarily have to break the bank for his signature.

His deal at Spurs expires in 2020, and the club could be looking to move him on during a time that ensures they get something in return.

This is a player who reached the Champions League final and won La Liga in the same year with Atletico Madrid, now playing a key role for Tottenham.

Take a look at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current defensive options and you’ll see exactly why there is the need to sign a defender like Alderweireld. Other options include Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

The Belgian would be the easiest deal to conduct, but signing the likes of Koulibaly and Varane would go a long way towards improving our defence for years.

Let us know who you’d like to see United sign this summer?
