Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman does not plan to buy Manchester United, the government’s media minister has said, while confirming that talks over a sponsorship with the club have took place.
The Sun ran a story over the weekend claiming Mohammed bin Salman was preparing a bid for Manchester United, valued at £3.8 million – suggesting a hefty profit for the Glazer family.

But Turki al-Shabanah, the media minister in Saudi Arabia, dismisses a takeover, posting the following tweet: “Reports claiming that HRH the Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman intends on buying @ManUtd are completely false. Manchester United held a meeting with @PIFSaudi to discuss sponsorship opportunity. No deal has been materialized.”

We’ve been told off the record that interest in a takeover from Saudi is very real and the stories around it shouldn’t be ignored.
So this could be a red herring, who knows?
