What Solskjaer said about Man Utd contract situation with Martial and De Gea

Speaking at his press conference on Thursday, Man Utd interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer delivered updates on contract talks with Anthony Martial and David de Gea.

The Red Devils are back in action against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Friday night, as we look to make it eight consecutive wins under the Norwegian tactician.

However, the focus moved away from the game during his press conference on Thursday, as he was asked about any developments in contract talks with the key duo, and it sounds relatively positive that we’re moving in the right direction towards long-term deals.

“I think the club is making progress, yeah, but I leave that to the right people to do that,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I don’t really know how far away from it [we are] but hopefully we can have some good news in the coming weeks.”

Given how important the pair are for us, it’s hoped that deals can be secured and that they commit their long-term futures, which in turn will also take away the potential distraction to allow them to fully focus on matters on the pitch.

For now though, it’s promising to hear Solskjaer suggest that progress is being made, and so the wait goes on for good news to arrive that the influential pair have indeed put pen to paper on new contracts.

De Gea has been an ever-present again this season, making 28 appearances in all competitions while keeping seven clean sheets. As for Martial, he’s bagged eight goals in 18 Premier League outings to prove that he still has a key role to play moving forward.
