Star with €30m release clause wanted by Juventus, Man Utd and Inter Milan

According to Calciomercato, AS Roma are under pressure to keep some of their best players including Manchester United target Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The report, citing Corriere dello Sport, does not make a potential deal out to be straight forward. They say Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the Italy international but claim Juventus have been monitoring his situation, with Inter Milan also said to be entering the race for his signature.

It also states that the 22-year-old has a €30 million release clause. His breakthrough season occurred last season with Sassuolo, and it looks like he is already wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

At Juventus, Pellegrini could come in as an understudy to one of their ageing midfielders – Blaise Matudi and Sami Khedira – as a long-term replacement.

It’s a totally different story at United, though. The Reds are still looking for the right solution to bolster Jose Mourinho’s midfield, with new signing Fred sitting on the bench most weeks, even when key personnel are absent from the midfield through injuries.

Nemanja Matic is in decline and United really need to find a midfielder with a range of passing, mobility and willingness to get the ball forward quicker from deeper positions.

As for Inter Milan, the Italian giants are on the rise and look set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. But against Juventus and United in a race for a new player, what hope have they?

Time will tell but with an alleged €30 million release clause, Mourinho should try persuade Ed Woodward to make a move in January.

The other two players linked with moves away from Roma are Kostas Manolas and Cengiz Under.
