Man Utd waiting to hear whether £122m star wants to join

According to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, Manchester United are interested in signing Gareth Bale this summer but have been given no indication Real Madrid are willing to sell.

The report states sources close to ESPN have insisted the club are always in the market to buy the best players in the world – of which they consider Bale to be one.

It would be hard to argue that, of course, given a fully fit Bale ought to be in the top 5 footballers in the world.

United will only seriously consider a move for Bale if they are given encourage by Madrid or the player’s representatives. His agent, Jonathan Barnett, is due to meet with the Madrid hierarchy to discuss the Welsh star’s future since he’s become frustrated by a lack of game time.

Bale admitted to being “disappointed” at not starting the Champions League final in Kiev.

Still, he came on from the bench to score a match-winning brace to send Liverpool fans home in tears – just how we like it.

Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation as the coach on Thursday has made it more likely Bale will stay. His contract runs until 2022, but I get the impression he will wait until the next manager gives him assurances about being given a more prominent role next season before deciding on his future.

Unfortunately, United have to play the waiting game.
